In DC, we have a company that used to be Rad employees who does a good job servicing Rads. I agree with the other poster who said to consider whether there is a local outpost for either company that you can use as your first line of defense for repairs. The company has recently been shedding staff and downsizing and that may affect their responsiveness. I own a Rad and the service I've received has been pretty good, but they can be slow to respond. This is true of basically every product review, not just ebikes, so always good to search out real life experiences. They don't own a bike long term and get a sense of reliability and customer service responsiveness. A reviewer has a bike for a week and decides if they like the performance and features. The video reviews aren't sponsored, they are just not asking and answering all the relevant questions. Overall though, I would say that the customer service experience at a bike shop is going to be better than what you can get online. ![]() ![]() I've read tales of ebike owners waiting weeks for repair parts at bike shops. Most issues can be fixed on the spot, but supply chain issues have hit bike shops and big-name manufacturers as well. If you buy a bike at a bike shop, you can always walk through the front door and talk to someone. The reality is more like 3-4 business days for most companies. In the first few weeks after a purchase, that should be same-day or within one business day at most. A product should work when delivered to a consumer, and support resources should turn around useful replies in a reasonable timeframe. There are legitimately issues that aren't reasonable under any circumstances. I don't mean to excuse online retailers entirely though. That's not necessarily an unreasonable expectation, but it doesn't match with the terms they agreed to when they bought the bike. Lots of people think that if they receive an ebike, they should be able to return it at zero cost for any little problem. The big disconnect and a major source of online complaints is that consumers go into this relationship with incorrect expectations. This means doing your own troubleshooting, including providing tools and equipment like a multimeter. ![]() Shipping ebikes back and forth for service isn't economically feasible, so online brands expect you to contribute to the support process. When you buy online, you're committing to a different kind of customer relationship. There is markup, of course, but that markup goes toward keeping the shop open and employees employed. No one ever became filthy rich by operating a bike shop, so it's not like they're out there bilking customers. When you purchase an ebike online for $1,500 instead of an ebike at a bike shop for $3,500 (and up), that cost savings has to come from somewhere.
